Perhaps E W Hamilton Should be Eric William Hamilton. 

He was born on 13 January 1888 in Godstone ,Surrey ,England.

Educated at Blundell’s school and Cambridge University.

He worked in district office, the N.T.. Later on he worked as the superintendent of imports and exports.

He died in 1961.

Hamilton arrived on Hong Kong as a cadet in 1911.

He was appointed as Acting Postmaster General in March 1917

His Excellency the Governor has been pleased to appoint Mr. Eric William Hamilton to act as Postmaster General in addition to his other duties during the temporary absence of Mr. Dudley Corscaden Wolfe or until further notice, with effect from March 23.”
