Hart Avenue [c.1911- ]

 

Named after: Sir Robert Hart, 1st Baronet (1835 –1911), British Diplomat in the Qing Government (source)

Details:

Hart Avenue is a Y-shaped short street in Tsim Sha Tsui. Today is starts at Prat Avenue (close to Carnarvon Road) and bifurcates after about 60 m. One branch (the older one) runs south to Mody Road, the other east to Chatham Road South.

1900s Elgin Road

On Flickr attributed to the 1920s, but Elgin Road became Haiphong Road already in 1909. Possibly taken from Robinson/Nathan Road. 

There is a gas lamp in front of the houses. Public Works Report for 1892 states the erection of gas lamps on this road.

Quite a drastic change with many new houses compared to the 1927 photo, constant only Star Theatre.
