c.1930 View of Central & Harbour

Here's a good view over Central, taken in the late 1920's. We can see a couple of changes since the 1922 photo:

This had me confused for a while, but I think I've got it now. We're looking at

Stone in commemoration of the commencement of Praya reclaimation works [1890- ]

Date Place completed:

Hi there,

I came upon this huge stone monument in Chater Garden yesterday.  The most astonishing thing was that it was moved there in 1983.  Before I read the engravings I didn't know it was so important.  However I could not recall where was the original location.

The engravings read:

c.1932 View of Central, Sheung Wan & Harbour

Near to the centre of the photo is the dark roof of the second-generation Central market, and beyond that is the fire station. We know that the fire station was completed in 1926, and the market was demolished in 1937, so the photo was taken between those dates.

Can anyone see other landmarks that give us a more accurate date for the photo?

You might not believe it, but here's an adjacent block of five (5) houses right in the Heart of Central.

Corner of Wing Kut & Des Voeux Central [????- ]

This one was mentioned by fellow netter philk earlier.  The height of this block is one floor extra than most of the ones that we have been marking up here.  I had had a glimsp of the stair case and it also appeared to be made of wood.  I cannot verify the building date of this by it's looks as it had been modernized in the past decades.
