It's taken in Hong Kong some time in between late September 1937 and the capture in December 1941.

It's the Royal Artillery and the one front & centre with his arms folded and looking smug is my grandad Joe Denton.

I would say that from the picture my grandad was on the victorious team of a tug o war contest.

The ferry Man Chung was built by the Hong Kong and Whampoa Dock Company in 1925.

An image from the HK Telegraph newspaper microflim. Probably at Kwangti Racecourse, Fanling that was used during annual camps

Not many images of the Air Arm and its participants appear to have survived

Hopefully one day an proper photographic image of this scene will emerge on flikr or in albums on offer by ebay
