The Metropole Hotel / Belle View Hotel / North Point Hotel, North Point [1898-????]

Does anyone know where this was located in HK and what could be there now? There was a Metropole Hotel on Waterloo Rd on the site of the former Fourseas, but this hotel pre-dates the Fourseas. Any info would be great! <Read more ...>

Indian Army Hong Kong 1900

Interesting series of photos of 'allied' soldiers taken during China 1900-01 -- this hi-res shot describes these troops as from Hong Kong. Presumably the photos were taken in Peking, when soldiers from a collection of nations invaded Peking in 1900 to end the Boxer Rebellion and lift the siege of the foreign legations. Incidentally the invasion was probably the first United Nations-type action, given the number of diverse nations involved (while many of the troops were colonial conscripts). Here's a picture I have just come across at the bottom of a file of family snaps.

Anybody got any ida what it is or where it might be? Sorry about the quality but can't get any more out of it on my primitive pic editor.

c.1900 View over Sai Ying Pun

A view over Sai Ying Pun, and the western harbour towards Stonecutters Island. The photo is showing its age, but as this view wasn't photographed as often as Central and Sheung Wan, it's stilll worth showing.

It's from the same set as the photo of Union Church, and has the same person's handwriting on the back. On this photo it says:
