Approximately 1980, visiting Hong Kong during boarding school holidays and finding the Shatin Heights Hotel being demolished.

Hong Kong bus station 2nd August 1981

Text on Flickr:

Turn round 180 degrees from the clock tower in the previous photo and this was the view - Tsim Sha Tsui Star Ferry bus terminus in Kowloon. The famous Star Ferry boats run across the harbour to Hong Kong island from behind the building behind the buses.

I don't know what buses run in Hong Kong these days but in 1981 they were all clearly British designs. Not to mention the British weather.

Hammerhead Crane (Demolition) Timeline

Date picture taken (to nearest decade for older photos):
1982

It's not easy to find the demolition date of the Hammerhead Crane, Hung Hom. Fortunately, in the early 1980s frequent aerial survey flights were performed that are accessible at the website of HKMS 2.0. These were executed at different flight altitudes, therefore some photos have poor resolution.

In this compilation the top row shows the crane, while it's already gone at the bottom row. So the demolition date should be between May and October 1982.

Gloucester Road and Causeway Bay 1980

This is almost a panorama image (from two separate photos on Flickr) with a bit missing in the centre. I think it was taken from the pedestrian crossing over Gloucester Road at Percival Street. It shows the junction with the Cross Harbour Tunnel looking east.

This the restaurant's second location after Percival Street.

Tram 139 covered centenary livery of the Wharf (former operator of HK Tramways), was one of the 15 trams rebuilt using original underframes and first appeared with roof resistor boxes in 1986, and they were eventually replaced by new bodies by end-1991, i.e. 1987 series.

1986 Hunghom dock

Construction of Whampoa Garden has started already. Of the former staff houses, only Tantallon Terrace is still there.
