Holland-China Trading Company: Hong Kong, Johnston Road, Central Wanchai, VW T1 delivery van, ca. 1956 (original print)

Charles Gesner van der Voort had started his career in Rotterdam, at Holland-China Trading Company (HCHC). In 1938, he went to Shanghai for the firm. The Japanese interned him, and most other Dutch nationals, from 1943-45. In camp, he met his wife Nancy and they married after the war. After a leave in The Netherlands, they returned to the Orient, where Charles continued to work for HCHC in Hong Kong.

This could be anywhere in the New Terrritories, but it is with photographs taken in the West and I think that this mus thave been on the Castle Peak Road possibly near Yuen Long.  It is not a race as behind the racing bikes there are several 'sit up and beg ones', especially the very high one at the back ridden by the man in dark clothing.  It's probably a cycling club. (Andrew S)

Judging by the admiring group, the car was 'owned' by a very senior officer.  (Andrew S)

I'm sure those with Rolls-Royce or Hong Kong car registration interests will be able to identify this car

I suspect the location is Sheko.

I'm just guessing the picture's year date date

Having seen the thread regarding HK car registrations, i thought this might be of interest. The man in the car is Charles Henry Reginald Oxlade, Chinese Maritime Customs Service from 1925, Shanghai VDC and later Capt 5th Gurkha Rifles, killed 1944 at Imphal. He was not the owner of the car, i understand it belonged to a friend of his. I cannot date the photo but it was most likely between 1926 - c.1940. it would be interesting if anyone knows of the car's present owner or whereabouts.
