Description reads:

Graduates and senior students from the Hong Kong College of Medicine were employed as assistants to the Government Bacteriologist between 1902 and 1912. Their main duty was the examination of rats at the public mortuary and at the Bacteriological Institute for evidence of plague infection, in order to help in control and prevention of the disease among the community.
