Charles' employer, Holland-China Trading Company (HCHC), was founded by several people, including Albert Hotz, through Hotz, s'Jacob & Co (Albertus Paulus Hermanus Hotz, born in Rotterdam in 1855, died in Italy in 1930).

Science Museum Road, 尖東

The building on the right is Pak Sui Yuen 百粹苑, former halls of residence of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University at 17 Science Museum Road, Tsim Sha Tsui East. The halls were demolished around 2006-07 (?) and the PolyU's hotel, Hotel Icon, now stands on this site.

Dutch community in Hong Kong, 1919

Charles worked at Holland-China Trading Company in 1939. Twenty years earlier, Bob de Vries' father worked for HCHC in Hong Kong. This photo shows members of the Dutch community at the time.

Original caption reads: "Hong Kong 1919 - - Members of the Netherlands community in Hong Kong. Notice the shortage of women!" An arrow indicates 'Pa', Dutch for dad.
