On the 14th October, 1906, Hankow was gutted by fire, whilst alongside the Canton Steamer Wharf at Hong Kong, as a result of a passenger's cooking stove overturning. One hundred and thirty people were killed in C.N.Co.’s worst-ever (non- wartime )disaster.

Paddle Steamer "Hankow" gutted by fire at the Hong Kong-Macau-Canton Steamboat Pier on 14 October 1906. 130 lives were lost.

The name of the pier can be read, the name of the company is a bit difficult. However, I think it reads: Hong Kong, Canton and Macao Steamboat Company.

George Fenwick was the owner of a shipyard in the area of Queen’s Road East and Ship Street (Wanchai). 

He appears for the first time in the Jury List for 1877 as "Fenwick, George, Assistant, Inglis & Co.", and two years later as "Engineer" of the same company.

In the 1884 Jurors list he appears as Engineer of Fenwick & Co, living in the district Wantsai.

In the 1895/96 Jurors list he appears as Manager of Fenwick & Co, living in the Hongkong Hotel.
