The Public Works Report for 1922 refers:

In the early part of the year, a large Pavilion was erected on the site to the West of the Hongkong Club [i.e. Statue Square]. This structure served temporarily as a reception hall during the visit of H. R. H. The Prince of Wales, and was demolished immediately after the Royal Visit. On the same site the erection of a permanent War Memorial is now in progress.

Suspended " Rochester" Gas Lamp - Statue Square

In 1927 the local governmnet installed a new patented type of gas lamp at the traffic circle near the  Queen Victoria monument and statue in Central. The design of the suspended lamp, manufactued in Britain, was known as the "Rochester" . The lamp could be raised and lowered by special gear allowing the riigid  piping to move up and down without gas leakages.

Statue Square, Central District, Hong Kong Island, c.1920s.

Statue of Prince of Wales (later King George V), shown on this photograph was installed at Statue Square on the 6th of February 1907. At the back of the statue is the Supreme Court Building, completed in 1912. Originally named the Royal Square, it had a number of Royal statues displayed around the Square with the statue of Queen Victoria, in an ornate pavillion, in the centre.
