Victoria Gap and Peak Tram 1890-1930

In science there is a term called data mining – extraction of new informations and interrelations from already existing data. I had the idea of image mining – using images on Gwulo for new (unreported) connections and timelines.

My special interests are buildings on Barker Road, so I chose from Gwulo photos of Victoria Gap and the Peak Tram with Barker Road on them.

Let’s start in 1890. This one was probably taken from Severn Road and shows the Peak Tram and Mount Austin.

The Cottage [????-????]

This house appears on the 1909 peak map as well as on the 1924 peak map.

It was either modified or built completely new to become Villa Blanca, possibly after 1945. At least the roofs of The Cottage and Villa Blanca are different.

1920s Peak view

View on Victoria Gap with Peak Tram. In the center Barker Road is crossing. Interesting to see a pavillion in front of Glenshiel, and a building behind.

Date is set to 1920, could be later.

New Falconridge(?) [2012- ]

Date Place completed:
c.2012-04-01 (Day is approximate)

Falconridge (1981-2011) was demolished, and construction work on this site started in April 2012.

In October2017, work is still in progress. No name has been assigned to this house.

On the photo from September 2018, no scaffolds are visible. Probably the end of construction.
