Birthday Buildings in 2014

Looking through Gwulo's list of buildings, how many have a major birthday this year? Lets start with those that have made it to 50 ...

50 years old

Not very exciting, is it? The best-known building on the list is a carpark!

You can see it on the left edge of this 1979 photo of TST. It's about about half way down, next to the golden-coloured Sheraton Hotel:

Tsim Sha Tsui May 1979

If you have any sentimental attachment to this carpark (!), you'd better visit soon. The site goes up for auction at the end of this month.

Hong Kong July 1946 - swimming naked

This should test the Gwulo regulars.

An extra from my book the History of HMS Queen. The event took place in mid July 1946.

girl guides

it seems the girl guides used the Helena May Institute as their headquarters when it was open in 1916. i wonder if there was any official documentations related to this.

New "Photos" tab on Places

I've made an improvement to Places, adding a tab that shows all the photos we have of the Place. eg here are all the photos we have of St. John's Cathedral:

http://gwulo.com/node/2542/photos

The main page for a Place already shows thumbnails of the photos, but the new page shows larger photos, and shows all photos on a single page.

Views along the tram line in the 1930s

Join us on a tram-ride through 1930s Hong Kong:

You can click on any of the titles or photos above to visit that photo's page. Many have larger copies of the photo, and additional information about the view.

Thank you to everyone who uploaded the photos shown above. If you have any other views along the tramline from the 1930s, please can you upload them for us to see? Here's how to upload a photo: http://gwulo.com/node/2076

How could I find the Black's Link Japanese war remains?

I always walk the path of Black's Link. We would normally start where the houses are, and then in 10 minutes, we would reach a small resting area where there are seats, a foot massaging floor, and you could even see the Aberdeen tunnel in that view. Once, I met a guy who told me that he was searching for bombs in that area. I would like to know where could I find the cool caves and tunnels in black's link. How to get there? Should I start walking from the entrance of the Peak(near the entrance of Bowen road)?
