Searching for pictures of Queen's Road in 1870s

I would appreciate it if anybody has any idea where I might find a picture of Queen's Road in the 1870s at the point or near where number 338 stands today.

It was the siite of the National Tavern which later became the National Hotel and the signs for these businesses may be visible. This was the tavern area at the time.

Any help or advice would be most appreciated.

The Ex-RAF Aerial Erectors Association - HK Photographs 1950s

I came across these photographs from the 1950s on the Ex-RAF Aerial Erectors Association website. Look for the HK ones.

These include both  personnel and locations. The latter are Kai Tak, Little Sai Wan Ho, "Batty's Belvedere" and Tai Mo Shan.

It is highly likely that someone has already found and posted these but I couldn't find them through a quick check.

Mui Wo (梅窩) or Mui Wei (梅蔚)?

A page on wikipedia (so it must be true) says that Mui Wo(梅窩) used to be called Mei Yu (梅蔚) in the 13th century AD.

Can anyone shed any light on this, please?

Bestest, Andrew

The land in Shau Kei Wan and Sai Wan Ho (or even more surrounding area) are allocated by using SIL (Shau Kei Wan Inland Lot). It is different from other areas in HK Island i.e. IL (Inland Lot). Anyone know why it comes out especially anyone know the first sale of land of Shau Kei Wan?

R E Jones' diary goes home

Yesterday I met Rae at her home in England, and delivered her father's diary:

Handing R E Jones' diary to Rae

Rae first got in touch two weeks ago [1]. By coincidence I'd already booked a flight to London for last week, so I asked if I could pay her a visit. That was arranged, then on Tuesday she mentioned that

Did you know ?

That in 1900 LegCo noted that the community of Hong Kong had raised some HKD153,000 - as relief for soldiers and sailors engaged in the Boer War. In a demonstration of Imperial largesse the Council voted the sum of HKD50,000 to the same cause. From Public Funds of course.

Exciting news this week – we’ve heard from Rae, daughter of R E Jones. She has just read her father’s wartime diary [1] for the first time, having always believed it was destroyed in 1945.
