Fort Victoria [????-c.1861]

Date Place demolished:
c.1861-01-01 (Year, Month, Day are approximate)

Old Chinese Fort taken over and named Fort Victoria by  British Soldiers

When Pottinger returned to Hong Kong on 15th October 1841 he was displeased with Alexander Robert Johnson, the first administrator of Hong Kong for, amongst other things:

he failed to carry out instructions to demolish a small British fort, Victoria fort, on the Kowloon peninsula, whose evacuation had been agreed on.

Star Ferry pre-1957

Hi

I am researching the pre-1957 Star Ferry, especially the Tsim Sha Tsui side. Would anyone be able to help with details, unique quirks, etc. I am also trying to determine the fare at the time. The closest I've come was 20c in 1959 - post move - does anyone know if this was the fare before the move, or if the move triggered an increase?

Greatly appreciate any and all comments!

Hong Kong - The Peninsula

Original text:

My brother David and I stayed in the Peninsula Hotel during our week in Hong Kong. The hotel is in Kowloon, on the mainland side. Our room was on the side closest to the camera. It might have been on the fifth floor, closer to the front (left) than the back. We could see some of the harbor from our room.

Former Marine Police HQ, Tsim Sha Tsui in “Soldier of Fortune” (1955)

“Another international production filmed in HK the same year as Love is a Many-Splendored Thing. This one starred Clark Gable as a wealthy ex-mercenary enlisted to help a maiden in distress rescue her estranged husband from the clutches of the evil Chinese Communists. Perhaps making more use of the sights (and sites!) and sounds of HK, the film provides a great insight into HK at the time.

Star Ferry Pier at Tsim Sha Tsui in 1950s?

There are many curious photos in this site, and I have not seen the above one on Star Ferry Pier at Tsim Sha Tsui as in 1950s.
