Fenwick Street, Wanchai, 1967

Text on Flickr:

East Town Theatre (14 Fenwick St) is visible. The Movie "Is Paris Burning?" is on the marquee. This film debuted in late 1966-this is probably very early 1967 in this photo. Also visible are a bunch of Wanchai bars-the Pussycat, Playboy, USA Playboy, Candlelight Club. I guess the photographer was standing at the corner of Gloucester and Fenwick for this shot, looking south.

Hong Kong - The Peninsula

Original text:

My brother David and I stayed in the Peninsula Hotel during our week in Hong Kong. The hotel is in Kowloon, on the mainland side. Our room was on the side closest to the camera. It might have been on the fifth floor, closer to the front (left) than the back. We could see some of the harbor from our room.

This panormama was taken in 1967. It appears the fields were still in use instead of being left fallow and the Luk Keng villages were still fully inhabited instead of left derelict. The white building across the Starling Inlet is the Sha Tau Kok Police Station which was at the border between Hong Kong and Shenzhen. The tall mountain is Wutong Shan. Shenzhen was a sleepy place back then. Now Shenzhen is a thriving city and Luk Keng is a sleepy place.
