1500+ photos of 1972 HK by Nick de Wolf

Just thought I'd bring this collection to everyone's attention in case you weren't aware of it. 1500+ colour shots (un-edited, so there are quite a few dupes or out of focus etc) taken by a prolific photographer visiting HK in 1972. Lots of interesting stuff there; I've no idea whether they could be linked/used/integrated here..

https://www.flickr.com/photos/dboo/albums is the overall collection

and specifically these two albums for Hong Kong:

Humphrey's Avenue, TST, 1972

Text on Flickr:

When I was in HK in '72, I asked the girl at the desk in my hotel where to get some film. She wrote down the address of a place on Humphreys Avenue, but I never went, because it seemed like too far a walk. Well, here is that place, in a photo from 1972 I just acquired. Mayland Photo Company, 16A Humphreys Ave.

I guess I should have walked over there-I would have found all these bars, like the "007" bar

Peak and Mount Cameron from Victoria Harbour 1972

Found this one on flickr in the album "Hong Kong 1972" by m20cw51.

Furama Hotel is under construction, and I believe that's the same for  Altadena House. Old Cragside Mansions have already been demolished and an empty construction site can be seen left of Altadena. We should set demolition dates of Cragside to at least 1972, and finishing Altadena to 1972 or 1973.

Star Ferry,1972

Image (external):

I already posted this same photo, but this is a newly digitized scan of the old negative I just had done-the results are dramatically better than the printer scans of the old photos I had been doing-I'm going to send out a lot of my old photos for "freshening up"

Where HK island is just a blur in the old photo scan, this one is quite sharp and clear-note the Peak terminal just under the eaves of the Star Ferry building. This photo was taken in July of 1972

Harbour View, 1972

Here's another view of the harbour, taken around July 9th,1972. While I was there, that small US Carrier pulled in, and the Wanchai places I had been hanging about in were suddenly flooded with Sailors. Tropical Storm Susan was approaching, and those ships quickly pulled out. After that, I practically had the whole place to myself down there.

Lap Sap Chung vs Miss Super Cleans

Probably scanned from a Hong Kong yearbook. Caption:

By the end of the year, however, Hong Kong's streets were much cleaner as Miss Super Cleans eradicated the infamous Lap Sap Chung once and for all.

Lap Sap Chung & the Connaught Centre

Image (external):

Probably scanned from a Hong Kong yearbook. Caption:

By late 1973, the 52-storey Connaught Centre will be one of Asia's tallest buildings. It is shown here two-thirds complete, towering above 'Lap Sap Chung' the litterbug who despondently surveys a spotlessly clean Statue Square.
