Wilfred Reed is the father of angie-r, on whose behalf I am posting some details of his life. Information about his brothers' role in the Battle for Hong Kong and his own role in safeguarding the female members of his family is given in the post on Robert Cyril Reed. Margaret Annie Bond, also mentioned on this site was great-aunt to the Reed brothers and Lucretia Murray, wife of Patrick, was their aunt. Amaro and Maria Reed were their parents. Willie Reed was an outstanding sportsman and played hockey for Middlesex.

Charles Bond was a French Canadian who came to Hong Kong on a sailing ship in 1869 and joined the police in 1870, acting as French interpreter. He  commuted his pension on retiring in 1880. At the age of 33 he married Anna Maria Reed, widow of Robert Reed. They had one daughter, Margaret Annie Bond, who lived to the age of 92. Charles Bond was apparently a widely known and popular personality in Hong Kong, a steward of the Hong Kong Club and an agent for Chiarini's Circus when they visited the Colony. He also seems to have been manager of the Shameen Hotel in Canton.

I haven't been able to find any information about Mrs L.M. Murray who owned "Merville", 161 Wanchai Road, the house where Ellen Olson, stepmother of my grandmother, Hannah Warren, died. The Rate Book entry for 1915-1916 shows that several of the "European" houses in this part of Wanchai Road were owned by the Irish policeman documented in Patricia O'Sullivan's book. We can see Henry Dixon, J.J. and C.L. Lysaught and N.G. Nolan. I'm trying to find out whether Mrs A.M.
