Former British Consulate Takao

Date picture taken (to nearest decade for older photos):
2007

Former British Consulate at Takao ( Kaohsiung) , Taiwan built in 1866. The building stood the ravages of time until the end of the 20th Century when it was badly damaged in a typhoon. The front facade, however, remained basically intact with some of the interior walls still extant. In the early 2000s it was declared a  monument and has been restored as a museum.

HUEY NEWTON AND THE BLACK PANTHER PARTY IN HONG KONG

I am interested in the occasion when Huey Newton,of the militant Black Panther Party, passed through Hong Kong on his visit to Mao`s china.Do any historians have accounts or can refer me to accounts of this?Is it true he stayed at the very un-Marxist Hong Kong Hilton?

Hong Kong Hotel (1880s)

Text on Flickr:

One of five photographs from Hong Kong in our family collection. John Mitchell Dunlop was based there for a short while during the early 1880s, and qualified as a ship's engineer during that period. He later settled in Bangkok, becoming manager of the Bangkok Dock Co.Ltd..

Remark: JM Dunlop worked for Blue Funnel Line at Holt's Wharf.

Probably also from the Pun Lun Studio.

Original title: Chung Hom Kok (舂坎角, Hong Kong), 1980

I made this image from what is now Stanley Ma Hang Park (赤柱馬坑公園), near the current location of Murray House (美利樓). The camera is facing southwestward, toward Chung Hom Kok (舂坎角).

Comment by Penhahk: i believe this is near Chung Hom Kok area, u took this picture from Stanley near Murray House (looked westwards). Nice houses on the hill is still existing. More hints is the pavilion (orange coloured) on right hand side, that is Kwan Yam Temple.

Victoria Peak and Kennedy Town skyline - 2, Hong Kong, 1980

Original text:

The small island at right is Little Green Island (小青洲).

I believe that the smoke visible in this image was engine exhaust from the ferry funnel [no, see below].

Penhahk answered: the smoke was from Incinerator facilities in Kennedy town.

Although only the chimney is visible, the smoke cannot be overlooked.

Johnston Road, Wanchai - 4 (Hong Kong), 1980

Original text:

This view looks eastward in Johnston Road, at its junction with Fleming Road and Wan Chai Road.

Most of the large signs are gone, but the tall building with the rounded facade still stands.

This tramcar ride, camera in hand, offered a good opportunity and a great location to photograph a very interesting urban environment. "Back then," I did not imagine how much things would change between 1980 and 2010.
