1959 Gingles Restaurant

Image (external):

Update: The date for this photo is 1959, as explained in the comments below.

The Flickr comments suggest the older photo is from 1938, but I think the decoration is more likely to be from George V's silver jubilee in 1935. Can anyone else confirm?

HKMan, the author of this post on Flickr, notes that the current corner building is named 'Cheong Hing Building', a direct descendant of the original 'Cheung Hing Store'.

TST Post Offices: Old & Older

Image (external):

A good shot looking east along Salisbury Road. On the right is the Kowloon Post Office, next to the old KCR terminus. In the distance on the left is the pitched roof, single-storey building that was the previous post office.

This photo is one from Flickr user 'eternal1966b'. They continue to post a wonderful stream of photos of old Hong Kong.

1955 view over Wanchai

Image (external):

A great view over the Wanchai rooftops.

In the right foreground we can see the old R.N. Hospital. Over to the left is the open space of Southorn playground, and above that the Luk Kwok Hotel on the seafront stands taller than all the rest.

It's worth clicking through to the original on Flickr, and looking at the higher-resolution version they have.
