Golden Memories of Hong Kong - Exhibition on til Thursday

I haven't been along yet, but I'll post this first as it's only on for a short time.

It's organised by the Hong Kong Collectors Society, and according to the SCMP:

"Highlights from personal collections, including Chow's stereo-cards, will feature at the society's 20th anniversary exhibition... "

If you've already been to see it, what do they have on show?

Regards, David

something in the street

In 50's, some brick works were located in the junction of the streets.  Attached photo, it was circled in blue.  I had checked with the staff of HK Museum.  They had no idea about that.  Could someone know the usage of the brick work?

Looking for survivors of 1937 typhoon

Hello,

I am hoping to find someone who lived through the 1937 Typhoon for a piece I am writing. I would love to hear their memories of their experience in the storm and the aftermath.

Thank You,

Who do you recognise?

Who do you recognise in these old group photos?

Joan Izard sent in this photo of Central British School (today called KGV), showing the staff and students in 1939:

HKAAF/RHKAAF insignia

I have recently acquired a HKAAF other ranks cap-badge, which, I am told, dates from between 1949 and 1951, the dates which apparently mark respectively the creation of the HKAAF and its metamorphosis into the RHKAAF. The badge is the standard World War Two RAF pattern, very similar to that also used by the RAAF, the RCAF and the RNZAF. It has the pierced brass letters HKAAF within a wreath of leaves and a King's crown up top. I'd be happy to supply a photo should anyone wish.

110 years of Hong Kong Trams in photos

Here's how their appearance has changed over the years:

A. Single-decker (1st Generation) [1904-c.1913]

The public service started in 1904, running these single-decker trams:

1910's Causeway Bay Tram Station

Can anybody offer  a date for the resumption of cross harbour services in 1945?

Royal Navy Mobile Malaria Hygiene unit

My father, a RN gunner, sailed to Hong Kong from Australia on HMS Vindex arriving August 1945. He was involved in the liberation of Stanley Internment camp and never forgot the dreadful scenes he witnessed. He remained in Hong Kong until late 1946 working in the RN Mobile Malaria unit . I understand some of the Japanese guards at the camp were placed in work parties supervised by the RN then taken to clear the area around the south of the island. I have several photos of dad with these Japanese which I will upload to the site if of interest.
