Li Sui Chi presentation cup

Can anyone throw light on whether a practice of giving silver trophies as personal gifts existed in Hong Kong at the beginning of the twentieth century? One of the few belongings of my grandfather Charles Edward Warren, active in Hong Kong 1894-1923, and which was salvaged by my uncle, Leslie Beal Warren, was a mysterious silver cup that doesn’t appear to commemorate any sporting achievement or event.

Topees in fashion

I can remember wearing such headgear in the late 50's as a schoolboy

attending Kowloon Junior school.

Shanghai Anglo-Indians

Please help! My grandma's an Anglo-Indian born in Shanghai. She moved to HK during the 40s and had been in contact with friends and relatives there. She went by the name 'Rose Wang'. Does anyone have any information on Eurasians/Anglo-Indians from Shanghai???

This is the latest Jurors List we're making searchable - here's how to join in, it'll only take around 20-30 minutes of your time.

We'll take the previous year's spreadsheet, then work through it page-by-page and edit in any changes so it matches this year's Jurors List.

Step 1. Check the comments below to see which was the last page someone has started typing. You'll work on the next page. eg if the last comment is "started page 60", you'll be working on page 61.

1915 Jurors List

[The list has been typed up by volunteers: David, Grace, Kate, Neville, and Patricia. Please help us type up the lists from other years - it takes less than 30 minutes to finish a page. Click here for details.]

Typhoon damages in 1923 - anybody recognizing these places?

I bought these two postcards with uprooted trees, most likely a result of the typhoon on 18 September 1923.  One was along Nathan Road, but not sure where exactly these places were located.

The two postcards are here:

Wild times in old Hong Kong?

While browsing the web I came across the following description of Hong Kong in 1874 at http://www.shengjing.org/hart.html

It is written by a member of the Christadelphian religious group.

Oriental restaurant

Browsing the Jury Lists I find my great grandfather John Olson first appears in 1867 as manager of the Oriental Restaurant. This post is on the off chance that somebody may know something about the establishment. Heretofore I had thought this restaurant was part of the National Tavern in Queen's Road which the Carl Smith Archive seem to indicate. Strangely the 1868 Jury List shows him at an innkeeper on Queen's Road. All theories welcome. Sean

Who dug the Japanese tunnels?

Here's a page to gather any references to who dug them. First up is a mention in James Hayes' book, "The Great Difference. Hong Kong's New territories and its People 1898-2004":
