1950's Repulse Bay Hotel

Hi,

I am looking for a photograph of the Repulse Bay Hotel around the 1940s/1950s. My dad lived there during that time and I live here now, and so I think it would be a touching gift. I have been looking for one for some years now, but have been unable to find one so far.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Kind regards,

Melissa

Requesting Pre-war Electric Road Photos for my grandma

Hi all,

I am looking for pre-war photographs of Electric Road, North Point, to prove something which my grandmother had been telling me for years.

My grandmother, who unfortunately passed away two years ago, lived on Electric Road before 1940. She told me that, along with some distant relatives rented a flat on Electric Road, and worked at a torch factory in North Point (she could never work out what the factory was called), where she was involved in 'mixing battery powder'.

Carl Smith Collection: common abbreviations

We've had a couple of questions about the meanings of the abbreviations used in the Carl Smith Card Collection. I checked with the PRO, but they don't have any summary, so let's start one here.

If you've seen one it took a while to work out, please could you leave a description in the comments below? Similarly if you see one you don't understand, feel free to ask in the comments below.

Here are the first couple that have been asked about.

Spring-cleaning #2: Places without a location

Here's the second group of Places that won't appear on the animated map. In most cases they do have dates defined, but there isn't any location (ie the "Latitude" column is empty), so we don't know where to show them on the map.

The solution is to edit the Place, and add a marker to the map showing its location.

Updated "In the Web" & another book on Sir Robert Kotewall ?

Hello Everyone,

I read somewhere that an updated "In the Web" would be published.  Is there any news on that?

Also I'm trying to find a book on Sir Robert Kotewall which is titled:

Sir Robert Kotewall: A Man of Hong Kong

Any ideas where i can get hold of it?

Thank you!!

The Shuster Family in Hong Kong

Hi from Portugal!

I am a descendent of the Shuster Family who was in Hong Kong around 1880-1950). My grandfather, Fritz Edward Shuster, died as a POW In a camp in Japan. Some years after that, my grandmother (Elvira da Cruz) left HK and came to Portugal with her children (my Mom and Uncle) where she lived till she passed away in 1998.

Now I have been able to trace the Shuster's back to an an ancestor, Jacob Fritz Shuster, who worked at a Sugar Refinery, but I would like to find out more information, if possible.

Carl Smith Collection Card - can anyone help with content please?

Hi

I hope that this is an appropriate question to ask on this forum....my apologies if not.

The exact exerpt from the card is below .  I understand everything except the last line (which I think means that the source of the information is from the godfather G.T.Cruz) I don't know what "SP:" means other than possibly Spanish or sponsor.  Has anyone else found something similar and knows what it means please?
