Looking for pillbox #72

Monday's walk was one of those 'it's the journey, not the destination' outings. In theory I was going to find the location of pillbox 72, but in any case it was lovely weather, and a good excuse to scramble over some rocks.

How to show photos from other sites

Here's how to include a photo in a new place, comment, or forum post.

I'm assuming your photo is hosted on another server, and you know the url of the file, eg

Change in how pages update

Anonymous users (anyone that isn't logged in) will see a change in the way the site behaves. When they visit www.batgung.com or click any of the 'home' links, the page will not update. The easiest way to spot this is that the banner photo doesn't change.

If you want to force the page to update (eg to update the 'What's new' section on the left), just press the F5 key.

Or log in - then the page updates every time you view it.

Why the change?

Hong Kong Shop Houses

I find these building fascinating - harking back to an era that is sadly no more (as per usual with somewhere as 'dynamic' as HK). I get quite excited whenever I see one, sometimes on main thoroughfares, sometimes tucked away in the maze of streets that litter the territory. Perhaps it is their relative scarcity adds to their allure? Either way I have decided to try and document as many of them as possible and, at the inspired suggestion of David, to do this on Gwulo.

1941 Hong Kong : the Harrison Forman Collection of photos

I was very excited when I stumbled across the collection of photographer Harrison Forman. There are over 300 photographs taken in Hong Kong in 1941!

It is very diffcult to find photos from this period, as it was just before the Japanese invaded in December 1941. Much of Hong Kong's photographic record was destroyed during the fighting and the years of hardship that followed.

How to: upload your photos to Gwulo (basic)

This page explains how to upload photos from your computer / iPad / tablet / smartphone to the Gwulo.com website, so other readers can see them.

1. Before we start

Please only upload photos that are your own, or that are public domain, or where the copyright has expired. In all other cases, please just provide a link to the photo, rather than uploading the photo and breaking copyright.

2. Log in

If you're already logged in, you can skip ahead to the next section.

Help bring Hong Kong's lost buildings back to life

I'd love to see some of the old buildings that have long ago been demolished - be able to look all around them, and get in close to see details. Which one would you choose?
