Francis Oswald was the sixth son of Amaro John and Maria Rita Reed, born in 1913.  He was an investment accountant at Hong Kong Land.  Francis married Vera de Carvalho In October, 1941 at St. Margaret's Church.  His eldest brother Edgar was his best man and his other brother Arthur's daughter Mary was the flower girl.  The bride's best man was architect Al Alvares and her sister Ina de Carvalho was her bridesmaid. Tragically, Francis lost his life defending Hong Kong on 
December 18, 1941, at the age of 28.  He was the first of the four brothers to die in the war. He is buried at Stanley Military Cemetery next to his brother Stephen.
