Office staff Holland-China Trading Company, Shanghai 1921

In 1921, director Willem Kien (front row, centre), left the Shanghai office for the Rotterdam office of Holland-China Trading Company (Holland-China Handelscompagnie, HCHC). For this occasion, a office staff group photo was made. In 1921, the office was in Kiangse Road.

At the time, Charles Gesner van der Voort (1916-1991) was five years old, still playing in the streets of Dordrecht. In December 1938, after an internship at the Rotterdam office, he would sail for Shanghai and arrive in January 1939.

Cropped from Whampoa Dock 1920

As indicated from the 1920 and 1935 maps, the police station was situated on a ridge of Kun Yam Hill and above Taku Street. I think that the police station (inside the red circle) can be seen on this 1920s photo of Whampoa Dockyards.

Mattingly obit 1926.png

Ironic and rather sad combination of the birth notice of the granddaughter of my grandfather, Charles Edward Warren together with the announcement of the premature death of one of the Executors of his Will, Reginald Mattingly, only three years after CEW's own death. The obituary notice appears in both the Hong Kong Telegraph, the Hong Kong Daily Press and the SCMP, 31 December, p. 8.

Is this Peel Street, Hong Kong?

Date picture taken (to nearest decade for older photos):

Hi
I was wondering if anyone could confirm if this old photo is of Peel Street in Hong Kong? - it was in an old album I have of early 1920s images and it was titled "Peal Street" - I was looking online and Peel Street seems to be quite steep and narrow; perhaps it is a close-by street and has been labelled wrong?
Any help greatly appreciated!

Notice the lamp post on the left, with a hanging box to collect dead rats, due to an outbreak of plague.
