I've received the following email asking about this:

Passenger Lists into HK between 1910 - 1942

I am searching for inward (and outward if possible) passenger lists for ships travelling bwteen HK nd Japan, other Chinese ports and Singapore.

Can anyone direct me to where I might be able to locate these?

Prince of Wales visit 1922

I came across of a photo provided by this site on the internet depicting the 1922 Prince of Wales visit to Hong Kong.  My question is, who was the Prince of Wales at that time......Duke of Windsor or KGVI?  I tried to zoom in but the image of the subject sitting on a "sedan chair" was too blurry. And I believe the Governor was walking beside the Prince of Wales.

Was QEII the first British Monarch ever visited Hong Kong?  Has she ever visited China?

Wartime Lantau

I haven't ever seen much written about Lantau's experience of the second world war. But last week I read about it twice!

First was Suzannah's description of the War Crimes in Hong Kong, including "Kempeitai and [Japanese] Army attacks on villages such as at Silver Mine Bay". We'll learn more about that when her online database goes live next month.

SEARCH FOR: "Licensing Sessions"

While following the Gwulo trail to the Chardhaven Hotel's liquor licence in 1938, I came across the last meeting of the Liquor Licencing Board on 4 November 1941.  The most poignant was a new application for "The Halfway House" 9 Taipo Road.  I have not yet found out if Charles Choy was granted a licence ...

Bowen Road Borrett Road

War Crimes in Hong Kong

Summary: If you have any information related to Hong Kong's War Crimes Trials held in the late 1940s, Ms Suzannah Linton (suzannah.linton@hku.hk) would like to hear from you. She is currently researching this part of Hong Kong's history.

The Crimes

The crimes date back to the World War 2, and the Japanese invasion and occupation of Hong Kong. There are three main groups:

St John's Cathedral Records

The Cathedral library has copies of their 'Review' magazine from 1929 onwards. Each month's issue had details of weddings and baptisms. I've compiled a sample list for 1929 - you can click on it below.

The library is upstairs in the administration building, which is just downhill from the Cathedral on Garden Road. You'll need to visit the cathedral office to get the key for the library door.
